This is the end of this chapter in my journey to learning. I still have so much to learn about anything and everything–I’m looking forward to it. I’ve enjoyed this learning process, and know that I will only continue to grow and learn. …To be continued.

Just a short note… Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to see my friend who uses Sibelius for his music programs in his private music school. We just couldn’t make the time to see each other and have a look at it. Oh well, too bad.

This just goes to shows the emergence and increase of ICT in primary schools all over the world.

I agree with Erin’s commentary in relation to Bill Ferriter’s blog. For technology to work effectively in the classroom, teachers must be able to embrace change and “policy makers must step upt ot the plate”. Teachers are constantly neing challanged, therefore, there needs to be support readily available for them; and teachers need the time and resources invested in/for them to grow as learners. Ferriter goes on to suggest that teachers receive the “right kind of professional development”. I agree, teachers need the training necessary to be able to teach and aid children in ICT learning. I like how Erin put it, she said, “I personally plan to start small and progressively and sequentially expand my horizons through experimentation and professional development courses”… It’s all about risk-taking!

I think I’m stressing a little bit now… I need to knuckle down and finish this off! I think I’m taking a big, big “risk” now, kina leaving this to the last few days. But anyway, this is what it’s all about. Maybe I need some sort of special robot/software/hardware which can do all the thinking for me… when is somebody going to invent that???
I was just reading other people’s view on learning, and have truly been inspired. Last week, in one of my tutorials, I can’t remember whcih one anymore, but we were questioned, “why are we doing what we are doing”. As teachers, I believe we constantly need to ask oursleves this question. In the ICT realm (and every other educational realm), we should have solid and valid reason why we are doing ‘x’…
I went to the UTS library yesterday and located more journals on music education and ICT. I’ve been overwhelmed. Initially, I had a little trouble locating information regarding the topic that I had chosen, but there is so much out there.
I was reading through my peers’ blogs and realised that Jen is also focusing on ICT in music education. I read a particular of her’s that she published on February 17, here she shares websites and links she found regarding this topic. I hadn’t thought of looking at the current NSW DET site to see what they offer teachers and students in the music classroom, Jen had. I followed her link to the site and found some very interesting ideas from the links that were in the page. There were three main headings: teaching ideas, interactive sites and music technology. The site displays music resource links which are separated into the various stages. This site is fantastic, and could be very helpful for teachers in NSW. Jen also linked another site, The Viva Zone. When I was in priamary school, I remember this group coming a few times to showcase their music program. I remember it being a lot of fun, and interactive. The students actually got to join in, touch and feel the equipment–the instruments, etc. It was great. I think there was a fee, I’m sure there was.
There is truly, really, so, so many sites and resources available for schools, teachers and students/kids to explore music, and learn it in a fun and positive way.
